An excerpt from my new novel.

As this is the only horror novel I'm ever going to write, I decided to have a good time.

...there, at his feet were Eric and Vince’s heads, their faces wearing almost identical expressions of eyeless shock, except that Vince’s lips were moving, trying to say something that would now forever be lost.
Julian froze in a netherworld or terror, but finally managed a half step backwards as the portion of his still functioning brain tried forlornly to regain control. He immediately tripped on some unseen object, falling heavily onto his back just as two things happened.
Another dark, squirming shape wrenched itself out of the brilliantly lit orifice. Thick furry legs ending with dark cruelly sharp claws, already glistening with something wet and steaming in the incredible light. Then long spidery arms, already four times the length of his own and all seemingly connected by a slightly transparent, leathery skin. He could see small vessels pulsing blood malignantly into what now had to be enormous wings, but only wings seen in the worst of his nightmares – anyone’s nightmares
With another crack like the volley of a machine gun they quickly unfurled, flapping, instantly fanning him with rancid smelling wind and in the next sucking what little air remained in his bruised lungs as the pressure decreased to the point of near vacuum.
This new horrific vision then screamed: a deafening, screeching cry of defiance and fury that caused his ear drums to pop. Then with a fluttering that finished the job by immediately rupturing both, and unnoticed in the concussion which blew him backwards like a leaf in the wind, it was gone. He dimly felt about a second later, the sound of all the windows in the giant room shattering.
That was when the second thing happened. By now Julian’s conscious brain had almost shut down, refusing to accept any more of the horror. A big black shape seemed to be hovering above him. In the last second of his life he realised what it was; and that it wasn’t hovering. It was descending at an enormous speed. The entire front facet of the marble block with the strange writing had begun to fall.

And those are just some of the mild parts.

This is definitely not a YA book but should amuse people like me - that is if there are any others like me.

  1. Hmmm - I think you are having way to much fun here! It is gorily addictive - I don't want to read on but I can't help myself. Does anyone survive or daren’t I ask?

    1. You can find out in a week or so. I'll be giving it away for a day. But it was fun.

    1. Yesterday when I left a comment on the Pony post Sally's was the only comment that I could see. The moment I completed the comment a whole lot of others suddenly appeared between Sally's and mine. I think there may be some sort of gremlin here!

    3. You're right, Sharon. This was meant for you, while Donna's answer went on your box. Something is indeed weird with this blog. Or maybe it's just me.

  3. By now Barbara’s conscious brain has almost shut down, refusing to accept any more of the horror! But I could read just a little more - if you want to share.

    1. I'll put up some more horror tomorrow, after I finish my job. Now that's horrifying.
