Book of Pain - almost done.

If I had two working arms I'd have finished the novel by now. And if I'd had two working arms I would have trimmed the entire back garden and cleaned out the garage, according to my dear wife who never lets such inconsequentialities as major injury dampen her disapprobation of my constant failings.

I'll shock her tonight, though. I'm going to wallpaper the entire living room while she's out; just like she's been demanding for nearly a year. That'll show her. We'll soon see who's laughing then.

Last night, using a pen and paper, I spent about an hour trying to calculate the terminal velocity of an unconscious man. You can see where this is going. I finally settled on about one one and twenty miles per hour at point of impact. Then much later, when I couldn't sleep I watched a Discovery Channel program about - you guessed it. Actually, I wasn't far out.

I'm up to the 1950's now and my very annoyed hero is about to catch up on today, rather quickly, and hopefully the end of his misery, one way or another.

Out of sheer boredom I began another painting which I'll finish later because the end of the novel has come to me. I've said that before but as usual with my writing, the end I think of first is almost never the end I finally use. It will work out at about 120,000 thousand words or 450 pages. A little long probably but there's bound to be some rubbish to be erased. I'm quite looking forward to finishing draft 1 because I've just found a terrific ending for Kongomato 2 which is almost finished, anyway but has been on hold for the writing of B/O/Pain.

So on with the papering. I hope it works out better than last time when I finished it before realising that I'd put the whole lot up - upside down. Beloved absolutely refused to believe that it was meant to be that way.

  1. I really like your painting - I think it is one of your best so far. What is really good is that the colours are so clean and clear.

Congrats on getting so far with the book - that's really impressive.

  2. That's very kind of you. Actually I've changed the painting already. I never know when to stop.
I'll do another twenty pages today if it kills me and hopefully by the end of next week draft1 can have a month's rest while I get back to monsters.

  3. If I had two brains and four arms and 20 fingers, I'd be done drafting the two I'm working on.

    Hugs and chocolate,

  4. According to my wife, even one functioning brain would be quite an achievement for me.

  5. Beautiful painting. Very nice. As for the book, I can't wait to see how it ends.

  6. I agree with Sharon. This painting is one of the best - so far. I'm excited to hear that K2 is nearing completion; I hesitated before saying that as I didn't want you to think I was nagging!!
