The last excerpt of my new novel

Here's another bit of my new novel. After the beta reading stage is over it should be on Kindle in a week or so, then paperback now I seem to have finally worked out the glitches in CreateSpace.

Below them on the deck, just beneath the huge skeletal remains of an ancient crane was a human head. Splayed out next to it were the remains of two bodies in the second stages of decay. Not that there was much to decay since whatever had attacked them, which was presumably the Cryptids, had almost been picked them clean. Long gouges rent the torsos. The meat, for that was what it was to the reptiles had been hacked and torn from the flesh. One whole leg remained of one body, but the rest was a torn mess of drying entrails and shattered bones. There was not even enough flesh left to determine whether the poor creatures had been male or female. Of the other there was even less. Somehow the head had been torn from the body and had been carried off in its entirety leaving the ground smeared with a blackened stain of long dried blood and assorted internal organs which had been picked at very successfully by the large flock of gulls which screeched at their arrival and now waited impatiently on every surface for their departure.
Hendry heard Susan’s retching and just managed to avoid doing the same thing. Gently plucking the torch from her hand and after covering most of the eerily coloured beam with his own, he quickly splayed the beam around the general vicinity. Apart from the two mutilated bodies he could see nothing more.
‘Come on. Let’s get out of here. It must have brought them here to eat in privacy after picking them up somewhere else.’ Needing no prompting, Susan followed him with legs almost as unsteady as his own back to the boat where he grappled with the mooring ropes for almost a minute before he was finally able to untangle himself and climb back aboard. Once inside they met the questioning gaze of the policeman with a grunt that they should try site number two.

    1. Those are just the mild bits. You get more than that in a soap opera.

  5. in a separate comment so you can delete it ;)

your betas will probably catch this but since I am here:

Below them on the deck, just beneath the huge skeletal remains of an ancient crane (comma) was a human head

The meat, for that was what it was to the reptiles (comma) had

had almost been picked them clean (extra "been")

had been carried off in its entirety (comma)leaving the ground smeared

from her hand and(comma) after covering most of the eerily coloured beam with his own,

splayed the beam around the genera - might try "light" instead of a second "beam"

Susan followed him (comma) with legs almost as unsteady as his own (comma) back

where he grappled with the mooring ropes for almost a minute before he was finally able to untangle himself and climb back aboard. - you ight make this it's own sentence - instead of "where" maybe use "there'?

    1. Thank you so much for that. I haven't got to that part of the final edit but when I do, tomorrow, I shall remember what you said.
