Is it too much?

I've added another element to my painting. Am I following Bob Ross, that wonderful painter who is unfortunately dead now, in never stopping when enough is enough? I'm not for a moment suggesting that I'm as good as he was, but I just don't seem to be able to stop once I've started.

  1. I hope you don't mind if I am completely honest but I think I preferred it as it was before. The boat is beautiful and the cleaner lines of the first composition draw the eye to it without distraction. I also love the fine detail of the flower meadow in the foreground and what makes it so effective is that it does not cover the whole area and forms a contrast with the plainer background.

  2. Thank you. And I think you're completely right. I just never know when to stop.Luckily, I kept the original. I'll keep both but I won't do anything to it.

    1. What I think is great is that you can experiment with different versions but keep them all as you go along. That way you can be as adventurous as you like - if you try something different it may turn out to be brilliant or you can go back to how it was before if it does not end up the way you had hoped.

    2. Pity I can't do that with my writing. I know I can but I'd have so many sub folders, it would probably drive me nuts.

  3. I like the new addition. It isn't as plain anymore.

  4. I liked it before, but now I think it needs something more.... some red, maybe? or maybe just a couple of trees in the empty field to the far right... it just feels out of balance-y somehow... Hmmmm....

  5. Thanks to you both. I think I'll just retire it. There's always plenty out there to paint.

  7. I painted another version. I have the attention span of a gnat.
