Taking positive action

I've finally pulled my finger out (as it were) and un-clicked my sole ties status to KDP for Three Hoodies One. I've had it there for over six months now and according to their exceedingly small print I'm well within my rights. I haven't had a sale for ages so it seems to be the only way.

So by 22nd of August my decree absolute will be here and I'm going to put it up on smashwords as well. The intervening time will give me time to change the format slightly. I've had a book on smashwords before and it was a little tricky to conform to their formatting rules. I prefer the nuclear clean-up, which is to say, copy it to notepad and then put it back on Word. It means a lot of work but if I want to get it approved for their larger sales outlets, it's the only way. I wonder if it will help sales? I hope so.

Three Hoodies Two will appear on Amazon as did the first.

I hope they don't get nasty. I've heard some stories of whole collections being withdrawn by Amazon after someone has severed one or more book from the sole rights status. Time will tell.

  1. I've never been one to like sole rights status, and in most cases, I don't see that's it's helped with sales. I think your decision is a good one.

    1. We'll see. I didn't expect millions of sales but it's time to do something else.

  2. It seems this a tricky thing. So I've been reading.

    1. Theoretically it's simple. And if Amazon get stroppy, I'll just move everything over. However, they are in it to make money so I don't suppose they would be really stupid about it.

  3. I didn't realise it was all so cut-throat. I'd be interested to hear how it works out so keep us updated.

  4. Roger - I've chosen your blog for my little sunbeam award this month (its a shared award this time). Bask and enjoy! One of the reasons why I picked your blog is that it might give you a bit more exposure & increase your sales - all free advertising is good advertising!
