A new week is come - finally.

I've done a lot of work this week; unfortunately little of it had to do with writing. Actually, that's not strictly true. I did a lot of writing in the snatches of spare time I managed to claw from the week. Especially during that six hour wait in Battersea park with no tea or any toilets. Anyone who has read my novel Kongomato will know just how eerie Battersea park can be in the middle of the night. Anyway, after making the most simple newbie mistake I lost the lot. So the best piece of word processing software for android isn't quite as good after all since it doesn't auto-save and keep the work in a temp folder. I won't mention the name because there are laws against that kind of thing and anyway, it's not purely the fault of of aforementioned package, which is, after all, free.

I know I'm just blaming the software for my inadequacies. Especially as I lost a lot of good stuff that I simply cannot remember. Add that to a total plonker who doesn't save his work manually and you've got nothing left over.

I did finish the painting for what it's worth. Ultimately I got bored with it, but it did give me a great idea for the next phase of my new novel: The Book Of Pain. It's amazing where ideas spring from, especially when I had the whole thing written in my mind before I'd even begun. That will teach me. This time, I thought, I'll have a plan and stick to it. Unlike my other novels where I just winged it and waited for things to happen. unfortunately that plan has gone now. I still know where it will end but the only problem is that I now have two possible endings. I think I'll write them both and see which I like best. Or, more professionally, ask my kind and ever truthful beta readers which works best - or bestest as my daughter continues to say.

Finally, before I ramble in my usual fashion all the way down the page, I would like to thank Joleene for organising the Valentine blog hop. It must have taken a lot of work. The blog entries were great and well worth reading.

  1. I get so upset when I lose parts of stories that I've come up with. Sorry about that happening. I hope it all comes back to you.
Autosave should be a natural part of any program today. Based on the painting, it would have been a most interesting part of the story.

  2. I once lost an entire novel when using one of the very first laptops, armed with the frighteningly named Volatile RAM. If it lost power it lost everything. I still have the machine but now it's being used for it's rightful purpose: it stops my books from falling over.

  3. I email myself and back it up on a 4GB.

    Hugs and chocolate,

  4. I never even got that far. One minute I had lots of pages and the next it was all gone.
