Uploaded the book - the first book that is.

I finished re-writing Hoodies 1 some time last night. The Red bull was wearing off and I didn't want to wake up to find that I'd gone into caffeine hell and slumped unconscious on my keyboard leaving just nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn where my novel should have been.

I hadn't and after checking it one more time I uploaded it too Kindle. I'm not sure, with a week to go before my KDP agreement runs out, if they'll let me do it but so far I've received no irate or scornful messages. If it turns out that I have to renew it for another three months then so be it.

I believe, I hope, that the story has benefited from this re-write. I found thirty nine grammatical errors and an unknown number of typos. I even withdrew a page that never should have been there.

One kind reader of Kongomato, my horror novel, has told me of a few mistakes in that. I await her verdict and will fix those as well.

   I've learned my lesson.

I also have a lot more respect for editors than I did before.

  3. No. It's back to tea. Then I might not make so many mistakes.

  4. Be careful from energy drinks! Tea is actually a good thing.

Editing is indeed a tough job. I edited a chapter for a friend one day and spent the whole day on it just to perfect it. It is time consuming but a very important job. The essence of a story is not in its grammar mistakes or spelling/punctuation mistakes; those can easily be fixed. But a story needs to have clear, understandable sentences and fresh dialogue as well as logical plot. Writing has several dimensions to it and to its editing stages. I'm glad you did the corrections, but next time if there is no deadline (besides a self-imposed one), then take your time and do the editing first. It'll go much smoothier in the long run. Good luck Roger on all your books! Take care and good writing!

  5. Thanks for that. I did suddenly realise that the only deadline was my feverish anxiety to get it done. I've Learned that lesson. Before I even think about Hoodies Two I'm going to go over the mistakes Barbara from Marchhouse Books found on Kongomato, my horror novel. If I don't people will just think I'm sloppy and never buy any of my books.

  6. Oh yes they will! You are a fantastic writer Roger. I wish I could express just how much I enjoyed Kongomato. I really got to know and care about the characters. They were ‘real’ people with 'real' personalities, and I’m missing them. More please!!
